Peer Coffee Roasters by Plainoddity

Peer Coffee Roasters, envisioned by Plainoddity, offers a haven for specialty coffee enthusiasts seeking respite in the midst of their bustling lives, aiming to become an integral part of their daily routines.

Situated near Gwanghuimun, a site steeped in the history of the Joseon Dynasty, Peer Coffee Roasters nestles amidst old, low-rise buildings, embodying a sense of comfort and accessibility rather than striving for uniqueness. Rather than demolishing the existing exterior and internal wooden structure, the design focuses on remodeling and revitalizing these elements, honoring the site’s historical significance.

The first floor features strategically positioned windows that foster interaction with passersby and cater to takeaway customers, while retaining the charm of exposed old materials, evoking a sense of familiarity and comfort. Drawing inspiration from the historical context of Gwanghuimun, the counter and service table are crafted in the shape of a traditional dwi-ju, a wooden grain storage bin.

Ascending a narrow staircase reveals the expansive second floor, characterized by an open layout and exposed wooden ceilings. While the first floor encourages patrons to linger, the second floor is thoughtfully designed to accommodate group gatherings comfortably.
