Gogoro’s Battery-Swapping Initiative with HPCL in India
Gogoro, a prominent global player in battery-swapping ecosystems, revealed a strategic move on Monday by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). This collaboration aims to introduce battery-swapping stations across thousands of retail gas outlets throughout India in the coming years. The initiative aligns with India’s burgeoning electric transformation in its urban two-wheel transportation sector, emphasizing the pivotal role of establishing a robust swapping infrastructure.
The Vision for India’s Electric Transportation
Horace Luke, the founder and CEO of Gogoro, highlighted India’s urgent need for intelligent electric transportation solutions. He emphasized that Gogoro is partnering with Indian business entities, national, and local governments to implement an open, accessible, and scalable battery swapping and electric vehicle ecosystem in the country.
Gogoro’s Impressive Network
Gogoro’s existing network caters to nearly 600,000 riders and boasts over 1.3 million smart batteries in circulation across 12,000 battery-swapping stations situated at more than 2,500 locations. The company’s infrastructure facilitates over 400,000 daily battery swaps, amounting to nearly 500 million total battery swaps to date. These swaps have contributed significantly to environmental sustainability by saving over 750,000 tons of CO2 emissions since the network’s inception.
Acknowledging Gogoro’s Leadership
Amit Garg, the Director of Marketing at HPCL, commended Gogoro for its global leadership in battery swapping and electric two-wheel innovation. He expressed admiration for Gogoro’s platform, which has already facilitated close to 500 million battery swaps, setting a benchmark that others can aspire to emulate.
This partnership between Gogoro and HPCL reflects a shared commitment to advancing India’s electric mobility landscape, promoting environmental conservation, and fostering technological innovation in the transportation sector.
