Navigating the Evolution: The Journey of Zypp’s Founder in India’s EV Sector

A Vision for Change

In August 2017, Akash Gupta embarked on a mission to address India’s pollution crisis. Drawing on his experience with prominent companies like Airtel, Snapdeal, and Mobikwik, Gupta delved into the realm of electric vehicles (EVs) with a vision to revolutionize urban mobility. Recognizing the pressing need to tackle last-mile commuting challenges, Gupta initiated his venture Mobycy, laying the foundation for his journey in the EV sector.

Pivoting Towards Progress

However, Gupta’s trajectory took a pivotal turn two years later when he realized the nascent state of India’s EV market. Acknowledging the sluggish adoption rate and the formidable task of infrastructure development, Gupta pivoted his focus from B2C to B2B solutions. Collaborating with co-founders Shivraj Singh and Rashi Agarwal, Gupta rebranded the company as Zypp, redirecting its efforts towards addressing last-mile delivery needs. This strategic shift from consumer-centric to business-oriented solutions proved instrumental in accelerating Zypp’s growth trajectory.

Seizing Opportunities in the B2B Space

By tapping into the burgeoning demand for last-mile delivery services, Zypp capitalized on the existing infrastructure and operational frameworks. Partnering with industry giants like BigBasket, Spencer’s, Amazon, and Flipkart, Zypp facilitated efficient and sustainable delivery solutions using its fleet of EVs. Gupta’s astute observation of the scalability and cost-saving potential inherent in B2B engagements propelled Zypp’s expansion into a national network of clientele.

Driving Growth and Expansion

The strategic pivot bore fruit for Zypp, catapulting its fleet size fourfold and witnessing an eightfold increase in revenue over the past two years. With over 200 B2B clients onboarded and a significant surge in vehicle utilization rates, Zypp solidified its position in the market. As demand for sustainable delivery solutions continues to surge, Zypp remains poised for further growth and expansion.

Charting the Path Ahead

Having secured funding from the Indian Angel Network in November 2019, Zypp embarks on its quest for additional investment to fuel its expansion plans. While currently operational in Delhi NCR and Jaipur, Zypp sets its sights on penetrating key markets like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune in the near future. With a steadfast commitment to innovation and sustainability, Zypp navigates the dynamic landscape of India’s EV sector, driving positive change in urban mobility and delivery logistics.
